At Millbrook Kitchens, functionality will always be at the forefront of our design ethos. Afterall, the best designs should complement a life well lived. However, form comes a close second, and we pay particular attention to the fads and the fashions, differentiating between the two so you don’t have to.
What’s Trending for 2026

Cocooning Aesthetics
New Zealand has a design flair that’s only partially influenced by the fashions coming out of Europe. With our endless skies and intense light, colours behave differently and we respond with a long-standing love affair for timeless design that welcomes nature into our homes.
This year, we’ll see it in the colours that are set to dominate kitchen cabinetry. Warm palettes of coastal sand, gentle beige and tawny taupe will be accompanied by rich walnut tones. Gone are the day of stark minimalism, reflective black and Scandi pale. Instead, we’re looking forward to embracing a cocooning aesthetic that celebrates earthy neutrals.

Organic Texture and Shapes
With a calm palette established, texture is set to become the hero of 2026. Fluted cabinetry will counteract and balance honed surfaces. There will be plays on luminosity as porcelain benchtops interact with the satin aesthetics of timber cabinetry, and architectural screening will enjoy jewellery moments that are intentional, not themed. We’ll see this in mesh grills and reeded glass, visual layering that doubles to keep kitchens elevated, functional and tidy.
Add knurled handles in aged bronze, such as the latest range from our supplier Archant, and gentle curves, and kitchens are set to enjoy a timeless aesthetic that celebrates high-end abundance.

Quiet Luxury
Integrated appliances, from fridges and dishwashers to power points and wireless chargers, are becoming increasingly popular, eliminating the need for visual pollution within the kitchen. Likewise, sculleries are serving as the preparation zone, leaving kitchen islands clear of clutter, instead serving as a social hub for family and friends to gather. Pocket doors are discretely hiding on-bench pantries, and clean lines are encouraged with the continuation of benchtops that flow seamlessly into splashbacks, a vertical display of refined elegance and grace.

Layered Lighting
Large pendants over kitchen islands are yesterday’s news. Task lighting remains essential. However, kitchen lighting has become increasingly sophisticated and purposeful. Minimal cylindrical spotlights and sophisticated wall sconces add visual depth and sculptural elements to kitchen design, building ambient and accent lighting that creates focal points.
