If you’re looking for ways to add a little extra storage to your home, consider using kitchen cabinets in other spaces. We are seeing this happening more and more in our work in and around North Canterbury. Here are a few ideas to get you started.
Install a cabinet in the entranceway
I don’t know about you, but the number of coats and shoes that seem to get dumped at the front door is quite high in our household! By integrating a cabinet or wardrobe at the front door, you can magically hide all those jackets, gloves, hats and shoes! They’re also a great place to store sleeping bags and blankets, if you don’t have room in your laundry.
Put a cabinet in the bathroom for towels and toiletries
If you have the luxury of a large bathroom, why not make the most of the space and add a cabinet for those much-needed towels, bathmats and flannels. It’s so much nicer not having to walk halfway around the house to get a towel once you step out of the bath!
Create a mudroom by installing cabinets near the back door for storing shoes and sports equipment
We see this a lot in North Canterbury. There are plenty of children who play Saturday sports and come home muddy and wet and need to be close to the washing machine! Having cabinets close to the back door means they can pull out a towel to dry themselves off, and you’ve got storage space for equipment at the same time.
Use cabinets to create a home office space
With more and more of us working from home, it’s useful to have a dedicated storage space for paperwork, stationery and office supplies. Games room and entertainment areas in the home could also do with cupboards for storing all those cables, remote controls and computer consoles.
Install cabinets in the laundry room for storing cleaning supplies and linens
This is a bit of a no-brainer, but worth a mention, nonetheless. It’s an easy option to add some cabinets or shelving above the washing machine, so that you get easy access to everything you need.
Whether you’re short of space or just looking for a unique way to add storage, kitchen cabinets are a great option. At Millbrook Kitchens, we love using our creativity to come up with a variety of ways to make your home more organised and functional.
