It Takes a Village

There’s an old saying, It Takes a Village to Raise a Child, but it’s one we take a step further, because it’s not just the children we look out for; it’s the village itself, in particular the locals who make our community such a unique and special place to live and work.

Locals for Locals

Millbrook Kitchen owners Andrew and Poppy Silcock, along with Phil Gurney, are proudly local—North Canterbury is home. Andrew is a long-time stalwart of the Ashley Rugby Club, having played over 100 senior games in his heyday. These days, he’s taken up a new challenge: teaching Poppy the ropes at the Rangiora Golf Club—though his patience is often tested! Together, the pair are passionate tennis players and love their mountain biking and water sports.

Phil, meanwhile, is an off-road trial riding enthusiast and shares the thrill with his son, Riley. He’s also into grass karting—a sport he shares (and competes in) with Andrew, leading to plenty of playful smack talk before race days. On top of that, Phil is currently training for the Queenstown Half Marathon and attends the local Mainpower Gym.

But Andrew, Poppy, and Phil are more than just active participants—they’re true community champions. They don’t just live local—they support local. In the past year alone, they’ve proudly sponsored and backed a wide range of initiatives designed to uplift and enhance life for their fellow North Cantabrians.

North Canterbury BMX Club; Mainpower Stadium; Amberly A&P Association; Southbrook School; National Kitchen & Bath Association; North Canterbury Sport & Recreation Trust; North Canterbury Basketball, St Bede’s Basketball; Woodend School, Cystic Fibrosis Canterbury; Hawarden Golf Club; and the Ashley Rugby Football Club.

Taking Care of Business

In addition to community organisations, Millbrook Kitchens have partnered with numerous local businesses to deliver outstanding joinery to homes across North Canterbury and Christchurch. In some cases, these are relationships that have spanned decades, and there’s something heart-warming when a local business can support another local business.

Crafting Quality in our Community

Being active members of the local community is a privilege that we love. However, with that privilege comes responsibility, and for us, that means delivering excellence EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

Our joinery doesn’t just look good. It lasts.

We want to be able to play a round of golf, have a coffee at a local café, and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the old-timers at the Ashley rugby grounds. And we couldn’t if we knowingly installed inferior kitchens for the people we live alongside.

That’s why our joinery is always crafted with care, making a difference through quality components, and adhering to our own personal standards of excellence:

  • Our carcasses are double reinforced with mortise and tenon joins plus screws.
  • We offer the option of 18mm carcasses for additional strengthening (standard is 16mm)
  • We proudly offer a 10-year transferable hardware craftsmanship guarantee.
  • Our experienced design team delivers on both form and function.
  • From concept to installation, our team is highly skilled and experienced.
  • Being a Mastercraft Kitchens Licensee allows us to “Think National” but “Be Local”
